Tottenham Eveliina Summanen has been accused of cheating after the midfielder was charged with ‘successful deception of a match official’.
Summanen is alleged to have committed a clear act of simulation which resulted in Manchester United’s Ella Toone being sent off in Spurs’ 2-1 defeat at the weekend.
Toone, who has had her red card rescinded, pushed Summanen in the shoulder in reaction to a previous challenge. The midfielder, who was on the floor when the challenge occurred, proceeded to hold her face despite there being no contact.
The action resulted in referee Amy Fearn brandishing a red card for Toone, who would have served a three-match suspension as a result.
