Anthony Bennett’s homecoming turned out to be the wrong place at the wrong time.
Bennett was a Toronto Raptor for all of five months before the team waived him Tuesday, sending the 2013 No. 1 overall pick out into the NBA wild. The Raptors signed forward Jason Thompson, a 29-year-old, eight-year NBA vet, who was waived by the Golden State Warriors last Monday.
“It’s not anything . . . Anthony did wrong,” Ujiri said. “I probably put him in a tough situation. I feel he needs to be somewhere where he can play.
“I don’t know if we knew that our team was going to be slightly maybe (better than) where we were last year and playing time was going to be tough to get in.
